Rates vary depending on the specific services required, the complexity of the text and the time frame given to complete the work. Looking at a copy of the material allows for the creation of an accurate quote. My estimates are free and have no obligation attached.
How long does copy editing or proofreading take?
The length of time needed to edit a project depends on the level of editing required and the specific elements in the document. As a general guideline:
- copyediting can range anywhere from 500 to 2,000 words per hour, depending on the complexity of the text
- proofreading is faster, ranging from 1,000 to 2,500 words per hour
- other services, such as fact-checking, need to be looked at on a case-by-case basis
Please keep in mind that these are generalizations and the actual time will vary depending on your project.
What level of editing do I require?
Please have a look at my services page for a description of the services I offer. If you are still unsure, please contact me and we can figure it out together. I will provide a final quote after I have seen a sample of the text and we have discussed the parameters of your project.
What software do you use?
I use Microsoft Word. The track changes features of the program are perfect for author-editor collaboration. I will provide some instruction on using track changes, if required.
What can I expect after you have provided me with a quote?
If you are satisfied with the quote and would like to proceed, we will sign a contract for editing services. I use the Editors Canada contract for editing services; it will include all of the details we have discussed. We both sign off electronically once we are mutually satisfied with the terms and conditions.
Please contact me directly. I am happy to assist you.
